What is the best concealer that I have ever used?

Monday, November 21, 2016

I am continuing with my "best of" makeup series and next on the list are concealers! I have been using them since the beginning when the main thing I used them for was covering my dark circles under my eyes and covering red spots and blemishes. Now I use them also for highlighting.

Concealers come in many different shapes, sizes and prices. They are everywhere, from the shelves at your favorite drugstore to the high end section at Sephora. You can find them in a liquid or creamy form, in a stick, in a small pot as an individual or in a palette.

For the coverage, they go from light to medium to high, so whatever you like, you can easily find. Also, they range in different colors and undertones, so make sure you know what to look for, before you make the commitment. Choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin tone and you can also use it as a highlighter. That way you are creating more of a 3 dimensional canvas from your face with just one step.

So, there are few concealers I really like and enjoy using. But, just so you know, I use different products for achieving different makeup looks.

For an everyday, natural makeup look I like to use the Aura Correct Me Concealer. A light coverage concealer that is easy to apply, it does not crease under my eyes and it lasts all day. I also use it to highlight. Because I love this concealer, few days ago I bought the Aura Cover Me Concealer that is a medium to high coverage concealer in a stick that works wonders covering under eye darkness. It was highly recommended to me by sooo many people that I couldn't ignore it anymore, that I had to get it. I would use this when I want perfect, flawless complexion, before I apply my foundation and after I apply foundation, I will highlight with the Correct Me Concealer.

For a medium coverage, I use the Catrice Cosmetics Camouflage Cream. I really like this product.
I wrote a review on it that you can read it here.

For a more dramatic, heavy duty, flawless look I love to use the Seventeen Cosmetics Matt Concealer Extra Coverage. It was everything I wanted and more! High coverage, matte finish, flawless in every way possible. Because I love creating a flawless canvas out of my face, I usually end up using this product. If I really have to choose, this will be my best concealer I have ever used. I highly, highly recommend this product. Because I used it all and I don't have any left, I went to buy some more but I couldn't find it. Is it discontinued or is it just a period, I don't know. But I needed a concealer so instead, I got the lighter version Ideal Cover Liquid Concealer that I haven't used it yet. This concealers are around $10 and for that price you get a decent amount of product that can last up to 12 months.

Something I have been using lately is the GOSH BB Skin Perfecting Kit, a palette that has a concealer, a contouring cream and a highlighter with a nice size mirror. I try so hard to like this product but, it is a really light coverage that doesn't do anything. I wouldn't repurchase this and it makes me sad because I really love GOSH Cosmetics.

Concealers that I used over the years are:

-Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer was my first ever concealer. Well, it wasn't mine, but as a young teenager I was stealing it from my mother's makeup bag so I can apply it under my eyes, on blemishes and red spots. I still keep it because it reminds me of her. I remember I really liked it and I see many people still using it. You get 9ml of product for $25 and it would last up to 24 months.
*They say that they don't test on animals but still sell in China which means they pay others to do that for them. They are not cruelty free.

-Maybelline  Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer which is around $9 for 6ml of product and can be found in every drugstore outside our country, but I haven't seen it anywhere in our stores. I don't know why. I really liked it and I used it until the last drop, it did a fantastic job at covering dark circles and highlighting areas of my face. I also used Fit Me Concealer which was light to medium coverage. You get 6.8ml of product for $7 and can be found in every drugstore. Another one that I've used from this brand is the Affinitone Concealer that is around $5 and you get 7.6ml of product.
These concealers last up to 6 months.
*Maybelline is owned by L'Oreal. They test on animals so they can sell their products in China. The company is not cruelty free.

-MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, that is a concealer that was big on YouTube and everybody was talking about that actually made me buy it. You get 9 ml of product for $22 and you can find it in all of MAC stores. I thought that this concealer will do wonders but as much as it covered everything well, it made my under eye area crease like crazy. And I soon realized that I was using it just because it is MAC, and most of the time I was reaching a drugstore brand that was more affordable and performed better.
*MAC is owned by Estée Lauder. Even though they don't test on animals, they pay others to do so, so they can sell their products to China. They are not cruelty free.

NYX Cosmetics HD Photogenic Concealer which I had so high hopes for, wasn't doing so much for me. NYX is one of my most favorite cruelty free brands. You get 3ml of product for $5 and it lasts up to 6 months. But, it is really light, wasn't covering much and it creased a little bit which I find really annoying. Do I have really high standards and high expectations, because it is the brand's best seller.

- Manhattan Cosmetics were one of my favorite drugstore brands that I bought so much makeup from for so long. The 2 in 1 Concealer & Fixing Powder was my favorite concealer that is so high coverage I could hide even the darkest of under eye circles. It has a mirror, a fixing powder and a little sponge and you get 3.05 gr of product for $6 and it lasts 12 months. I loved this product so much that I had it in two shades. I also used and liked the Manhattan High Cover Concealer that it is discontinued so instead I recently got the Wake Up Concealer that somehow lasts up to 24 months and contains 7ml of product for around $4.
* I just read that even though Manhattan Cosmetics does not test on animals, it sells in China and with that the products are tasted on animals by a third party member. Not a cruelty free brand.

Avon Ideal Flawless Concealer Stick is the worse thing I have ever used. It did not do a single thing. It creased so much I needed to take off my makeup and apply it all over again. You get 2gr/0.07oz of product for $7 and it lasts up to 24 months. I would not recommend this to anyone.
* Avon tastes on animals in order to sell their products in China. They are not cruelty free.

So, what is your favorite concealer?
